Why Join?
- Do you want to build a better and more secure economic future for you and your family?
- Have you ever been unfairly disciplined by your supervisor or forced to accept a demotion, suspension or other punishment you didn’t deserve?
- Do you want a voice in the direction of your workplace and your union? A say in your own wages, your healthcare and retirement benefits, safety and working conditions?
If you answered yes to any of these questions it’s time to consider joining with AFSCME. With more than 1.6 million active and retired members nationwide, AFSCME is the strongest and most respected public services union in the country.
How do I join AFSCME?
Please contact your steward for a union card, as this is the best way and most official way to begin your membership in the union. Your steward's name and contact information should be posted on your union bulletin board, or you can ask a coworker.
If you cannot reach your steward, do not know who they are, or do not have one, you may contact the Local President or Recording Secretary by clicking on About Us, and then clicking on their name for their contact information.
What if I have questions first?
They might be answered on our Frequently Asked Questions page (under Resources), but your questions and feedback are welcome.
Also, remember that the union is a member-run organization. Talk to your steward. If that is not an option, reach out to our Local President. Their contact information can be viewed by clicking on About Us, and then the president's name.
